Halfoff, Iceburn.

This past spring Violent Future played 2 gigs down in Brooklyn and Philly on the way to Philly the day after Brooklyn we stopped at Double Decker Records in Allentown,PA I've heard a ton of stories of finds at this store and have never been there we got up early and made our way. I have posted a couple of the records I picked up that day on here in the past but this is just whats left over now.. There was no big hitters for sale as the owner said he just sold a couple in the last month or so before we got there. But he was having a 50% off used 7" sale so fittingly I found a Halfoff - Shooting Guns 7" on clear and a Iceburn - Burn Fall 7" on Clear for about $2 each. Both bands I have never really gotten around to checking out yet. Halfoff have 2 original songs and a Bad Brains cover of Sailin On the cover is ok and the originals sparked my interest in checking out there LP.
Iceburn did not really surprise me at all from what I've heard of this band (there LP's on REV) I would have to say this is there best stuff. But still its not really my thing. I might listen to this once in a while thou.

Ten Yard Fight 7's

I have been sitting on these next couple posts since June of this year so lets blow them out before the new year gets here. I picked these up when a friend of mine was selling some records in the summer I already had copies of these just not on these colors and for the price I got them at why not pick them up? Ten Yard Fight where one of the first straight edge YC style bands I ever checked out I got there back on track CD and it truly did change how I looked at music from there on out so adding more vinyl to my collection is always nice. First up is the TYF demo 1995 7" with red cover I believe they did red, yellow, green and maybe one other color for the covers out of 500 each I now have yellow and red.
You can pretty much pick this record up for $5 across the board any press of it and there are many This one is a first press on red out of 1000 and from what I've read online only 500 of them where numbered I got #242  Two solid bands for the price of one record here.

Bastard - Controled In The Frame

Sometimes it takes me a while to check out bands all my friends are talking about this is one of those cases I only payed attention to the music last new years at a friends house and I blown away buy what I heard holy shit this stuff is insane. Since then I have been checking out a bunch of Japanese hardcore bands and have been loving ever second of it. I picked this up from Grave Mistake shortly after I heard it. Reissued by 540 Records for there Chaos in Tejas gigs. Now I waiting for someone to reissue wind of pain cuz there is no way I can afford to pick up an original of that at the moment.

Superchunk - This Summer b/w Cruel Summer

Superchunk have quickly became one of my favourite bands in the last 5 years. I even got the little tube from the cover of there last album tattooed on my last year. I was not totally up on this release when it came out I heard about it though a friend after it sold out at a local shop. Superchunk has done a thing with there last 3 7"s where 95% of them are only available at record stores so  I called around and everyone in town and it was sold out everywhere. I emailed a fellow Superchunk follower and the person who got me into them to check there local store and they found it! Anyway after a mild panic they handed it off to my co-worker and fellow band mate (who's other band was on tour on the west coast at the time) and it was finally in my hands.. 1 new song and 1 cover. the new song is this summer its a slower poppy tune a classic tune to add to there catalog. Side B is a Bananarama cover called Cruel Summer I've never heard the original of this tune but Superchunk made it there own.

The last 3 7"s also have come hand numbered and this one is to #496/1300

The New Breed Comp...

I've been sitting on this post for what seems like forever know so lets just get it out of the way.. We all know what the deal with is by now. The New breed comp wild style cover pre-order version #70/200. This is probably the best nyhc comp to ever come out period. Finally pressed on vinyl. comes with a reprint of the zine that came with the tape with a couple extra bonus tracks from Life's Blood and All for one.

28.7.12

Billingsgate - Reach Out

I picked this up when I was in NYC a couple months ago now. I really did not know much about this other then it was a early Victory Records release (no.2) and that the cover picture was amazing, look at these guys you got 2 guys wearing trench coats a long hair smoking a cig a straight edge dude and dude that looks like a joker at the end what a mish mash of dudes here. On the other end Billingsgate play youth crew style of music that kind of reminds me of Turning Point, recorded in 1989 and out of Illinois. This 7" was way better then I thought it was going to be. The lyrics for each song are a short novel in length. I would suggest picking this up if you see it for under $5.
Oh yeah whoever owned this before coped a set list folded it up and tossed it in with the 7"! It was a nice added bonus when buying this record!

21.7.12

HOAX 2eps

I picked this one up a while ago thou the Youth Attack Mailorder fiasco that happened about 5 months ago. I've had this for a while now just getting around to posting about it now. Hoax are one of the best current bands playing this style of hardcore at the moment killer songs killer live show. This is there second 7" on YA limited to 200 copies on Clear/White vinyl.

The 3rd ep from Hoax on Painkiller have I have also had this for about 2 months. Huge poster insert that Hoax are becoming custom with there 7"s this thing looks and sounds killer.

30.6.12

Only The Strong Comp

I don't know why it's taken me so long to get my hands on this..maybe I have not been looking.. anyway I picked this up last week in a local store for cheap. Victory Records #5 Only the strong comp. There are alot of really great bands on this one the main seller here for me was the CONFRONT and FACE VALUE. Ya sure INTEGRITY are also on here and there good and all but I have never been totally sold on that band. also on here are LIFE CYCLE, INSIGHT and MEANSTREAK. Pretty solid line up for a compilation. I have no idea on the pressing info on this thing.. I've seen it with a red cover and on colored vinyl (ithink) also I think I'm missing an insert as this only had a mailorder catalog from 1996 tucked in there. So my guess that this is not a first press does anyone have any info on this?

29.6.12

OBITS - Let Me Dream If I Want To.

Obits came out with the new 7" about a month ago now. I use to work at a label that distro'd Sub Pop in Canada so I got in touch with one of my friends that still works there to see if I could snag one on the cheap. I had to wait for 3 different orders of this to come in before there where copies that he could grab for me. I was in no hurry to get my hands on this record because these where just 2 covers from Mink DeVille and The Kids on the 7" and I don't really follow either artist. I just got this last night and not knowing the originals of this might be good cuz these 2 songs are super chill laid back rock jams that Obits seem to knock out of the park. If you don't know my now this band has Rick Froberg from Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes singing in it.  As Always Sub Pop killed it with the layout on the standard sleeve here. and the blue vinyl is a nice touch.

NXNE Record Show pick ups

I've been seriously slacking with updating this blog. My cameras batteries died a month or so ago and I just got around to buying some new rechargeables so I should not have this problem for a while now. Anyway Last week in Toronto was NXNE its our little version of SXSW. They put on a record show at a hotel on Saturday afternoon so I headed down to see if there was anything I was interested in. I found a discounted 7" bin from one seller that had some high prices 7" and picked up the following for $10

Handsome st 7" on Sub Pop Records. My old roommate loved this band and was always trying to get me to check them out. If you don't know anything about Handsome they where a band that started around 96 and broke up in 98 featuring Tom Cappone of Quicksand/Bold/ Beyond , Pete Hines of Murphys Law/ Cro Mags and members of Helmet. anyway this band has the post hardcore quicksandy sound. I got around to checking them out about a year ago now and this is the first time I came by this record. Im sure you can find it in a dollar bin somewhere.

The Fire Theft - Chain b/w Sinatra - This band is 3/4 of Sunny Day Real Estate. This is the first single they put out to promote the LP that followed it then the band broke up as fast as they came around. This picks up right where the Rising Tide left of. Its decent but nowhere as good as the first 3 SDRS LP's

Shredder Records Comp Vol.2 - I see this record around alot in stores with a price tag of $10+ on it. That always seems a little steep to pay for 1 song on a comp that I liked so finding it for $2.50 was a little treat. So this comp has songs from Jawbreaker, Crimpshrine, Moral Cruz and A Priori and the only reason people still buy this record is cuz of the Jawbreaker song on it.  other then that one song this is a huge pile of crap at least in my eyes.

Rain Like The Sound of Trains - st.
Another band same roommate had a 7" of and said I would be into it. It has a very 90's emo rock kinda feel to it kinda like the later era DC Gray Matter stuff. also is a split release w/ Dischord Records No.85.5 to be exact. Its not horrible but I wont be listening to this record that often.

No longer on the Shelf...

I bought a couple records lately that I am not super siked on so instead of selling them to a local store I decided to just toss em up on ebay then i just quickly flipped thou my 7"s and pulled some doubles and stuff I have not listened to in years and don't feel like I NEED it in my collection anymore... anyway I have some records that I'm selling up on eBay check it out! -Rick

MINDSET, PEACE in Buffalo, NY

A couple weeks ago Mindset / Peace and Secret People where playing a gig in Buffalo, NY. thats about a 2 hr drive from Toronto. I got in touch with everyone I thought would be interested in going and everyone had other plans or where going to be out of town, so about 2 days before the show I decided I would take the greyhound down to the gig. I would be the first time since 2005 that I've done a solo mission like this got a show. I have been buds with the Mindset crew for a while now so Igot in touch with a couple them to see if it was possible to be picked up from the bus station. Once I got into town I walked around got a slice of pizza and then got picked up. The venue was at a old funeral home and a couple people lived upstairs. after the show someone who lived there brought us down stairs and gave us a tour of the morgue. There was not a lot to look at other then piles of garbage left from past tenants. It was awesome to go hang out with the guys in Mindset and meet the guys from Peace and Secret People.

First piece of vinyl I picked up was the new Mindset EP collection on gold with a Mindset stamp on the sleeve. Ev was saying they wanted the vinyl to be on Yellow to match the Time and Pressure record release vinyl but this is what they ended up with. I'm not to sure how many of these there are.

Another main reason for me to go down is to see Peace. I was a huge TFS fan and this picks up right where they left off. I had to pick up a copy of this for a friend and I pre -ordered  a copy from React! so I had no plans on getting one for myself till I saw it was on Gold /100 how could I pass on this I knew I would be kicking myself later.

I also picked up 2 records from Secret People. The one on the right is a Pre- Release version of a split with Sacred Love.

GET THE MOST - MOMENT IN TIME E.P. TEST PRESS

I have never really fancied myself a Get The Most collector but I do enjoy this band a lot. A couple weeks back I saw on my tumblr feed that someone was selling some records on eBay and checked out the link. Almost all the records he was selling where Crucial Response test pressings that he got from helping putting records together as a gift. This was up there with a low buy it now so I snatched it up because I do like this band and why not pick up a test press out of 20 when I don't need to pay what I've seen it go for in the past?

Record Store Day 2012

Well Record Store Day had came and went. When looking at the list this year not to many records really popped out at me but somehow I still came home with a good little haul. The only records I knew about that I was looking for this year was the DEVO live LP. I guess someone found this recording in a box and cleaned it up and decided to put it on vinyl. there are alot of bangers on this! I follow Devo on facebook and they have been updating a ton about this record. I actually went to the store on Friday and bought this along with the Misfits lp so I would not have to deal with the line ups on the actual day.
I dont own a Walk Among Us so I thought what better time to pick this up now that its on colored vinyl? I ended up getting Red out of 1250. I asked for the CFA 7" but they thought they did not get any so I went home.

Saturday rolls around and I'm at home and bored so I jump on my bike and hit up the local punk record store cuz one of my friends is working. I picked up the Poison Idea 7" there. There was no way I could afford to buy an original of this so I was happy to spend the $12 for this (even thou 12 for a new 7" is kinda stupid) after hanging for a bit I decided to walk next store just to see if there was anything I miss and as soon as I walk in one of the owners points my attention to behind the counter I guess they where shipped ONE CFA 7" and he put it behind the counter and out of the eyes of everyone in the shop. Pretty awesome! I really did not think that I was going to get this record. I peek at the shelf and see a Raveonettes 2x7" w/ 4 new songs on it! I had no idea this thing was even coming out. I love this band and these new batch of songs did not let me down!

Grey Matter - 2x7"

I picked this up on ebay about a month ago now. I was just searching for Dischord records stuff and this came up and saw it was from a Local seller and was going for cheap so I picked it up. This is later era Gray Matter and did not know what to expect. I knew the early "rev summer" stuff. They got back together in the early 90's and put out a couple more records. This stuff is not as good as there early stuff but I think I can hang with it.. The layout and cover for this record are spot on thou I love how it looks. 4 songs split between 2 7"s and its on Dischord / wgns. I'm sure you can find this for a bargain and if you do I would recommend picking it up.

15.4.12

GIVE - LP

I was reading Across Your Face Blog post about the GIVE lp and I was reminded that I had a pretty rare version of this record that most people might not even knew existed thus this post.

LOJ played a gig up in Toronto in July 2009 and brought up a couple GIVE records to sell, the record had just came out and actual covers where not ready at the time (i think) so they made up about 20 copies with this photocopied cover with the "give flower" on it and photocopied insert and sold them here. I really did not know much about the band at the time other then it had a couple LOJ guys in the band and since I was friends with them I picked this up. I was sold on this band as soon as I put on the record. As you know they have released 5 7"s since then and the songs are just getting better and better. anyway just thought I would make a little post about this and let the give completist out there know there is another record that might be impossible to search for on eBay.

Hounds Of Hate - No Redemption

I downloaded this record about 2 months ago when I found out my band was playing a show with HOH and wanted to check em out, I was not really sold on the band at first until I saw them live. They killed it and had the energy that I was looking for. I picked up the 7" from the band and have played it a couple times since then great songs good band.

18.3.12

Shoulder / Morning Again Split 7"

Shoulder are a band from London, Ontario they where around mid 90's and play post hardcore style of music. I never really listened to this band till a couple years ago.. 2 of the members went on to form the Constantines who are one of the favorite Canadian bands ever. Shoulder sound nothing like the cons but it gives you a good idea of where they came from. They put out a LP and a 7" on Conquer the World. This 7" came out on Moo Cow and is a split is with Morning Again who are 90's metal core band that I never really got into or even listened to there side of the record as I just bought this for the Shoulder side. It features very typical bad 90's computer generated art work pixals and all!

Hot Snakes - Peel Sessions

Hot Snakes.. what a band. A old roommate showed me them about 5-6 years ago now and they quickly became one of my favorite bands. I Picked this up the other night when a different friend of mine brought some records to sell at a gig.. This is one of the last pieces of Hot Snakes vinyl that I needed for my collection. Never really sought it out but glad it crossed my path.. Limited Red Vinyl that looks more pinkish then red.

25.2.12

Knockdown - st

This might be one of my favorite Youngblood releases. This is a upgrade copy that I picked up from my friend a week or so ago.. I've had it on black now for about 5 years or so. So its nice to finally get this on Clear.

19.2.12

Ten Yard Fight - Hardcore Pride

I've loved tyf since I first heard them in 1998. I also started to buy records the same year and up until now I have never had any TYF colored vinyl. weird right? I don't know what took me so long to get these but a couple weeks ago one of my friends was selling off a chunk of his collection and had these in there. I picked these 2 versions of the 7" up along with a couple other records that I'll post about in the coming days.
First up is the BWR version on Blue out of 900. I did not notice there was a big black chunk in the vinyl till I pulled it out to take the picture I dont know if this was common with the press or not? anyone know?

This is the Equal Vision Records version Grey/300 with a slightly different cover and labels then the BWR press.
